Substitute Teaching

To obtain a Substitute License

[[ If you hold a Teaching License (PEL), STS License, or Para License you DO NOT need a Substitute License - See bottom of page ]]

Anyone interested in obtaining a Substitute License must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited 4-year institution. A Substitute License is valid for 5 years and is renewable online through your ELIS account.

You will need to log into the new Educator License Information System site (link below) and create an account.

ELIS:  https://www.isbe.net/Pages/Educator-Licensure-Information-System.aspx

Under Educator Access, click "Click Here"  and then click "Sign Up Now" on the left side.  This will allow you to create an ELIS account.

You will need to have your official transcripts (in a sealed envelope OR via e-mail) sent to either of our offices showing your bachelor's degree.  If your Unversity has the capability to e-mail your transcript please have the University e-mail it directly to either Bethany Thatcher (Kendall) - bthatcher@roe24.org OR Kay Mallaney (Grundy) - kmallaney@roe24.org and we will upload that for you.  If you send it to the ISBE it will take much longer to be processed.

Once your account has been created, you will need to apply by credit card for the Substitute License in ELIS, under the Action Center.

If the bachelor's degree is on file in ELIS the Sub License will be issued instantly.  After the Sub License is issued, you will need to register the License in our county - Grundy/Kendall #24.
